And so we begin Series 2 of my coaching posts! This one will focus entirely on The Hero’s Journey and how we can apply this storytelling pattern to navigate our own lives.

Before I trained as a life coach, I worked as a script coordinator in film and television. Story is life for me! I adored learning about scriptwriting and storytelling in film school, and one of the stand-out areas was the Hero’s Journey and Joseph Campbell. Later, when I was writing my book, I read and re-read The Writer’s Journey by Hollywood story analyst, Christopher Vogler. (This is the version of the Hero’s Journey that I’ll be focusing on!)

Very early on when I decided to retrain as life coach, I realised how powerful the formula of the Hero’s Journey could be in helping clients understand the patterns of their own lives, and how to use story and fictional characters to inspire and transform.

We begin today with an overview of the Hero’s Journey (focusing on Vogler’s refined version of it) and then we’ll look deeper into each stage; what it means in storytelling, and also how it applies to real life, too. I’m really excited to share more on the Hero’s Journey, friends! If you love stories, personal growth, and delving deeper into these areas, I hope you’ll love this series too!💖
